We've Come a Long Way

Ciao,
As you know, last week I started my blog. I am having a great time researching events and passing them along. Last night I went on the AIS Napoli web site. That is the official web site for sommeliers in Naples which has articles of upcoming events, etc. I started reading an article about Ciao Vino, the enoteca around the corner. Fabrizio has another event planned, hmmmm.....oh wait I see my name!!!! There was an article about the event scheduled for Friday. In it, the writer discussed the importance of practicing English for business, tourism, etc. My name (though spelled incorrectly) was right between the names of two other 'wine professionals'. I was very excited. I just wanted to share that with you. You can take a look at the web site, its www.aisnapoli.it. The article is 'Da Ciao Vino, 5 Vini, 2 lingue.'

Napoli chiama Tramonti, Naples calls Tramonti:
Tuesday, 3 November, from 1730 to 2300, the First Edition of Tintore Day will be held in Naples at Cantine Astroni. A day dedicated to learning about, appreciating, and promoting the Tintore vine, a rare variety that is practically unknown to the public. This event is geared towards the press as well as people in the ‘wine business’, but the public is welcome as well. In fact, this will be a great occasion for anyone who wants to ‘discover’ a new wine. When you think about it, many Campanian wines that we drink today had been forgotten and rediscovered. This is one of them that fall into this category. The event will open with a round table discussion with wine experts Sebastiano Fortunato and Gerardo Vernazzaro and winery owners Gaetano Bove, Luigi Reale and Alfonso Arpino from San Francesco, Reale and Monte di Grazia. Journalist Luciano Pignataro will lead the round table. Afterwards, there will be a wine tasting and buffet with products from the Campi Flegrei and Tramonti area. I’ll be there. If you are interested, send an email to the above address, or let me know and I will contact them for you.The event is presented by Luciano Pignataro (http://www.lucianopignataro.it/), AIS Napoli and AIS Costa d’Amalfi. Present as well will be GIOI Piccolo salumificio Artigianale and Caffen.

Goat Cheese: Italian or French

Last Friday, the Scriveners and I spent an evening at Enoteca Mercadante for their ‘cheese night.’ Kate talked me into it. I’m not a cheese person, but I am a fan of Feudi dei San Gregorio which was the cantina of choice for the evening.
Enoteca Mercadante is an Enoteca during the day, but in the evening, they are a wine bar. Their menu on Friday was based around cheese; from the appetizer to the desert. The chef presented dishes that were a pleasure to the eye as well as the palate. We even had a plate with 6 different cheeses from France and Italy so that we were able to compare and contrast the differences in the two countries. (A word of advice…If an Italian journalist ever asks you after a cheese tasting which did you prefer, don’t say the French cheese! Sorry, Kate) Cheese was the theme so we had a chance to watch as Salvatore Varella and Paride Cimbalo demonstrated the basics in cheese making complete with audience participation.
