Goat Cheese: Italian or French

Last Friday, the Scriveners and I spent an evening at Enoteca Mercadante for their ‘cheese night.’ Kate talked me into it. I’m not a cheese person, but I am a fan of Feudi dei San Gregorio which was the cantina of choice for the evening.
Enoteca Mercadante is an Enoteca during the day, but in the evening, they are a wine bar. Their menu on Friday was based around cheese; from the appetizer to the desert. The chef presented dishes that were a pleasure to the eye as well as the palate. We even had a plate with 6 different cheeses from France and Italy so that we were able to compare and contrast the differences in the two countries. (A word of advice…If an Italian journalist ever asks you after a cheese tasting which did you prefer, don’t say the French cheese! Sorry, Kate) Cheese was the theme so we had a chance to watch as Salvatore Varella and Paride Cimbalo demonstrated the basics in cheese making complete with audience participation.
