Another highlight of my Anteprima Irpinia weekend was lunch on Saturday. Our group ate at the winery I Capitani. This winery, run by the Cefalo family for more than 100 years, welcomed us with open arms. Our schedule was tight, but we had time to sit down to a buffet lunch. I Capitani's wines are the classic Irpinia offerings; Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo, and Aglianico (Taurasi). One wine which was the topic of much discussion during lunch was Emè (Aglianico Taurasi, Merlot, and Sangiovese).
We squeezed in a quick tour of the winery, which basically is a mini-museum full of wine making tools from the past.
A quick caffè and a slice of amarone and ricotta pie, then we were on our way...
